A: This is dependent on the individual’s skin type and lifestyle, but generally speaking clients require a touch up every 12-18 months.
A: Microblading is semi-permanent. After approximately 3 years most, if not all, of the pigment should be gone.
A: We use high quality numbing creams before and during the session. Most clients report a pain level of 0 to 3 out of 10, with 0 being no pain, and 10 being the most pain. The feeling has often been described as a dull scratching on the surface of the skin.
A: We use the natural brow hair color, skin tone and client preference as a guide to help us choose what will be the most suitable color.
A: No, unfortunately it is not safe to have microblading done while pregnant or breastfeeding. If a woman is breastfeeding she will need to wait at least 8 weeks after completely weaning to have microblading done. This allows time for hormonal rebalance.
A: We determine the shape of the brows by completing very precise measurements using the client’s unique facial features, and what natural brow hair/shape is present. This is a collaborative process between the artist and the client so we also consider any individual preferences.
A: A first session appointment generally lasts 2 hours. Most of this time consists of prep work including numbing and drawing out the new brow shape with the actual microblading portion lasting about 45 minutes. Most touch up appointments range in time from 1.5-2 hours depending on the technique(s) used.
A: When done correctly microblading only deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin. This is not deep enough to affect the hair follicle, so no, microblading should not have a negative effect on the hair growth.
A: The pigments used at Kalon Studio and Academy are carbon based. This means that they are very stable in the skin and should not shift or change color over time. As your microblading ages it should only get lighter in color, and eventually fade away completely. This generally happens over the span of 1 to 3 years if not touched up regularly.
A: A traditional tattoo uses a machine or “gun” and goes much deeper into the skin than microblading. This is why it is considered permanent and lasts much longer than microblading or any other semi-permanent makeup services. Comparatively, microblading is completed by using a manual hand tool that only penetrates the upper layers of the skin.
A: Yes; but depending on how oily the skin is we may need to do a combination brow (microblading + shading) to achieve lasting results. Excessive oils in the skin may cause premature fading or bleeding of the pigment when only microblading is done. A combination of microblading and shading is much better suited for oilier skin types. Please see our services page and reference “combination brow” for an example of this technique.
A: We have had great results working on clients with little to no eyebrow hair. A combination of microblading and shading is usually best if you have little to no natural brow hair. This helps build dimension and density within the brow giving a natural finish.
A: No, this is a common misconception. We do not have to remove any eyebrow hair when microblading. If you have your brows waxed, threaded, tweezed, etc., regularly please do so before your scheduled appointment.
